Keynote Speaker: Patricia K. Poppe is vice president of customer experience, rates and regulation for Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy. She was elected to this position in November 2013.  Poppe is responsible for overall customer experience and satisfaction. She also is responsible for budget planning, rates, regulation and the company’s relationship with the Michigan Public Service Commission. Prior to her current role, Poppe served as Consumers Energy’s vice president of customer experience and operations since 2011.  Before joining Consumers Energy in January 2011, Poppe served as director of regulated marketing for energy optimization at DTE Energy. She also worked as director of DTE Energy’s North Region Power Plants, overseeing five generating facilities.  Prior to working for DTE Energy, Poppe held a variety of plant management positions during her 15-year career at General Motors Co. Poppe earned a master’s degree in management from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University.

Motivational Speaker: We are honored to have Carr Hagerman as our Motivational Speaker for COMPES PDC 2014.  Rather than follow the path of the MBA into the corporate world, Carr Hagerman took his talent to the streets – literally.  Over 30 years ago he began his career as a professional improvisational street performer where he learned first-hand how to focus and fully engage others without scripts, plans or props and distilled these experiences into simple insights and practices that nearly anyone can use to create greater success at work, home or in life.  For 18 years Carr has been a successful business coach, speaker and lecturer, corporate consultant, media producer and leadership consultant. He is co-author of the book “Top Performer, a bold approach to sales and service”, published in 2008 (Hyperion) and has been translated into 10 languages.  He has given keynote presentations and training for some of the world’s most successful brands, including Home Depot, Hilton Hotels, Proctor and Gamble, Apple, American Express, P&G, Johnson & Johnson, Best Buy and many more.

Capstone Speaker: Finally as the Capstone Speaker we are pleased to have Maureen Zappala is an award winning speaker, author and presentation coach. She is a former NASA propulsion engineer, and founder of High Altitude Strategies, a leadership development service that helps organizations propel their teams to peak performance by discovering where their members can find their fit and get fired up.  A native of NYC, she has a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and she spent more than 13 years at NASA’s Lewis Research Center (now Glenn Research Center) conducting jet engine research. She became the first female manager of NASA’s Propulsion Systems Laboratory, a jet engine test facility.  In 2009, she was in the top 10 of 30,000 contestants in the Toastmaster International World Championship of Public Speaking contest. She is the author of 2 books, as is a contributing author in the book “Heart of a Toastmaster.” As a presentation coach, she works with people who want to launch their speaking skills to the next level.
